You either love or hate this car- there usually is not an in- between. The Plymouth Prowler started the retro-car craze of the late 90's / early 00's that included the T-Bird, SSR Truck, PT Cruiser, the (copycat) HHR, and later the Challenger. It began as a 1993 concept car that was obviously never ever going to be a production car... and then in 1997 Chrysler shocked everyone and did. They had a couple goals- create excitement for the Plymouth brand, and a rolling laboratory for testing new production techniques, mostly related to aluminum construction. These were completely hand built cars produced in the same Detroit factory alongside the Dodge Viper. Initially they were bought up by speculators believing they had money in the bank as an instant collectable- however a handful of issues including being underpowered with only an automatic transmission slowed sales down after the 1st year. The car received continuous improvements and got a new engine that made it genuinely quick for the time- however the Plymouth brand was discontinued in 2001 right at the moment all the issues had been sorted out. Production ended in early 2002 with the last Prowlers going under the Chrysler badge. Not super comfortable as the footwell has to taper in for the narrow front end, but it is super recognizable and super unique- and only about 11,700 were made.
