2004 VW New Beetle

Behold the 2004 VW New Beetle

Another Beetle. As of this writing I have 4 Beetles in my collection. Well that seems kind of silly you say... ignoring the other 36 cars in my collection. I am betting that the collector market is going to turn its eyes on this generation Beetle soon. The new VW Buzz (the new retro van) is starting to focus some attention on these. Prices are just starting to tip up from their lowest point. Which brings me to a question I do often get asked... "Why all the cars?" My answers range from- "I'm not too bright,"or "I'm sacrificing my children's future", or I'm making up for certain other deficiencies."  While the daily drivers and a couple other newer cars will depreciate like everything else- most are part of a portfolio.  As long as that portfolio value is growing at a rate better than a comparable conservative investment strategy- well, then I get to have more fun than staring at a mutual fund report. It's also a little less volatile. It doesn't come without work though.  A super common problem on the convertible is the rear window motors break. About a $1,600 repair. But for me to be cash positive it means that I have to do the repairs I can myself. $37 part on Amazon!
