Back in 2009 during the Great Recession I happened into an opportunity to purchase a used 2005 Ferrari F430. It was priced for the market conditions- but I still had to sell my two other cars I that loved and I seriously considered selling one of my children for medical research to pay for it. It was a dream car- I couldn't believe it was parked in my garage. After the market recovered, it had significantly increased in value and I couldn't resist cashing out. It seemed irresponsible not too. But- it was one of a handful of cars that I really missed and wished I still had. So- I've been looking. The hard part with an older Ferrari is that if they have not been well cared for- and I mean really well cared for, they can have repair costs in the tens of thousands. Easily. That's probably why I also drive a Subaru as a daily driver... to balance out some of the stress that comes with owning a few exotics. Recently- I found the perfect F430 locally. The previous owner was someone who paid attention to the small details like I do- and even included the Lego set version of the car with it (super cool...for nerds like me). The local Ferrari store had done most of the work and also gave it the thumbs up. The F430 is one of the last Analog Ferrari's with lots of gauges and no LCD screens. I like that. It feels like a race car- and it should as Ferrari won a lot of races with 430's. Although not as quick or as fast as the latest models out of Italy- it's performance numbers still beat many new performance cars on the market today... all of which are way more capable than I am. Probably why I'm also content driving that Subaru.
