This is a true British grand tourer. The XK cars were launched in 1996 (as a 97' model) and shared the same platform as the Aston Martin DB7. In fact- there are several parts on this car that are found on my 2003 Aston Martin. Beyond that... there's nothing super special. They are, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful modern cars that Jaguar has produced. It is powerful, competent, and comfortable to drive. Pressing the Sport button actually makes a huge difference and wakes the car up- unlike most other cars where I'm pretty sure it's just connected to the blinker fluid reservoir. This is my 2nd XK8, having owned a 98' the year before. I decided I wanted the last model year as many of the issues on the earlier year cars had been worked out. The hard part was finding an 06' that did not have Navigation. Those features are super cool and super expensive when they 1st appear on luxury cars, but they don't age well and the gauge pack looks much better today. This one came out of Idaho- won one one of the larger auction sites. Low milage cars often look good, but are also likely have problems are not sorted out yet. Higher milage cars are cheaper, and maybe have had the common issues addressed- but everything has been shaking, bumping, going through hot/cold cycles that many more times. Cars from cold climates have corrosion (unless always stored in winter), cars from hot climates bake under the sun- withering plastics and paint. This one has lower than average miles, but unfortunately the seller didn't disclose several issues that took nearly all summer to sort out... and not cheaply. There is always a risk buying a car sight unseen- and I'll probably be doing less of that after this car and a couple before it. Fortunately I enjoy doing as much of the work as aI can myself when I have the time.
